The NBA – Where Multi Player Trades Happen.

AUTHOR: Justin DeFeo | IN: NBA | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Believe it or not, more transactions happened last night beside the Shaq deal.
In another deal made last night the Portland Trailblazers moved up two spots in the draft getting the 22nd pick from the Mavericks in exchange for their 24th pick and 56th pick in this years draft. I’d expect the Blazers to go for a PG with that pick, maybe Eric Maynor of VCU.
Also a deal agreed to in principle, the GS Warriors send Jamal Crawford to the Atlanta Hawks for Speedy Claxton and Acie Law.
So Atlanta now has a little bit of a log jam of smaller score first [...]

Is the Town Big Enough For the Both Of Them?

AUTHOR: Justin DeFeo | IN: NBA | COMMENTS: None Yet

As everyone has probably already heard by now Shaq daddy has been paired up with Lebron James in Cleveland.
Here is the story from ESPN.com…here.
So what’s this mean for Cleveland fans? Well they now have two of the biggest personalities in the NBA sharing court time together. They also have a guy they can run the offense through for small stretches at a time.
I would mostly like to say to Cavs GM Danny Ferry, where is the creativity? The best he could come up with trading for Shaq, who has now essentially become a rent-a-player? I don’t like this trade though [...]

“Point Guard is the Most Important Position”

AUTHOR: Justin DeFeo | IN: NBA | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

Being a 5-8 basketball player for my career doesn’t leave me with many options for positions I could play during my time as a player. There was guard and…guard. So that much was predetermined, but somewhere down the line my ability to handle the ball and my willingness (sometimes to a fault) led one of my coaches to try me at point guard..and from there that position stuck.
Once playing point guard though for a few years, I really came to love the position. Love everything about it. The culture, the language, the leadership..I was into every detail. Let me also [...]

RJ to the Spurs

AUTHOR: Justin DeFeo | IN: NBA | COMMENTS: None Yet

As reported on by ESPN.com Richard Jefferson was traded to the Spurs earlier today. In return the Milwaukee Bucks received Bruce Bowen, Fabricio Oberto and Kurt Thomas from the Spurs.
Look, if you’re a Spurs fan you should be happy about this deal. Jefferson is a legit player in this league. Mostly the Spurs needed to add a young, able body to their roster and with Jefferson they did just that. But Jefferson is much much more as a player.
Being a Nets fan I’ve been able to watch Jefferson come into this league as a rookie and grow into the player he’s become [...]

The Tuurrible Ten: Biggest Stiffs In The NBA

AUTHOR: Drew D | IN: NBA, The Tuurrible Ten | COMMENTS: None Yet

Earlier this week a commenter with the screen name of MrSuspenders (or perhaps it was DeathWarmedOver) asked why NBA teams pay millions of dollars a year to players that barely contribute anything of value to a team’s success.  The answer is simple:  Stupid General Managers.
For example, the main reason why the Milwaukee Bucks were forced to give Richard Jefferson away a few hours ago was because of ludicrous contracts doled out by former GM Larry Harris to players the caliber of Dan Gadzuric.  Current Bucks General Manager John Hammond should have gotten something of value from the San Antonio Spurs for RJ (like promising young point guard George Hill), but I’ll save that rant for another day.
Without further ado [...]

Uncontested Shots – NBA News, Notes, and Observations From a Self-Described B-Ball Geek

AUTHOR: Andrew Ungvari | IN: Draft, NBA | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

If this is the first time any of you have heard of me allow me to give you a quick introduction. My name is Andrew Ungvari and I’m a 32-year-old screenwriter born and raised in Los Angeles.
During the Writers Guild of America strike in 2007-08 I decided to start blogging about basketball as a means to keep my creative juices flowing. I never realized at the time how much I enjoyed writing about the sport or that it would lead to anything more than just free storage space for my thoughts.
Within a few months I had developed a following of [...]

Checking In With Charles: BJ’s, Draft Experts & The Clippers

AUTHOR: Drew D | IN: NBA | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

We’re now just a couple days away from the NBA Draft and Chuck has graciously agreed to stop by to answer some questions:
1)  What do you think of the players in this year’s draft?
I ain’t never heard of half the guys who are supposed to go in the first round.  Omri Casspi?  I think that’s the name of the red wine I had last night with my steak.  Either that or it was the girl the escort service sent over afterwards.
2)  What is more important:  length or a great motor?
Alexis Ajinca has tremendous length and Mark Madsen has a great motor.  Would you [...]

Just Your Ordinary High School Game

AUTHOR: Justin DeFeo | IN: NBA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Came across this video today after hearing of the story in which Montrose Christian Academy played and beat legendary Oak Hill Academy in Washington DC. This was Oak Hill’s only loss of the season and were coming into the game riding a 56 game winning streak. Montrose trailing by 16 points midway through the 3rd quarter came back to win the game on a buzzer beating shot. Considered one of the top basketball moments in DC history.
NBA relevance – Playing in the game was Kevin Durant, Michael Beasely, Ty Lawson, Greivis Vasquez and a hand full of other Divison I [...]

Checking In With Charles: Shaq, LeBron, Phil & More

AUTHOR: Drew D | IN: Checking In With Charles, NBA | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Charles will be stopping by every week or so to answer five questions on a wide variety of topics…
1) Do you think the Cleveland Cavaliers should trade for Shaquille O’Neal?
If Shaq joins the Cavs he’ll have to change his nickname from The Big Cactus to The Big Mistake On The Lake.  Cleveland clearly needs to do something and Shaq will definitely help during the playoffs.  If all it takes is Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic and J.J. Hickson then Danny Ferry has to pull the trigger.
2) Is there a bigger travesty than Seattle losing its NBA franchise after forty-one years?
Yeah, the fact that Adam Morrison has [...]
