The Terrific Ten: Transactions That Will Translate Into Victories

AUTHOR: | IN: NBA, The Terrific Ten | COMMENTS: 7 Comments

Wondering who the big winners have been this off-season? This week’s top ten list examines the most noteworthy transactions so far… 10) Shaquille O’Neal being dealt to the Cavaliers - Shaq’s impact during the regular season probably won’t be significant, but the Big Witness will be expected to pay dividends in the playoffs against Orlando and Boston.   9)  Indiana signing Dahntay Jones – The Pacers locked up Jones for the next four years at a very reasonable price of $11 million.  Brandon Rush and DJ will form a nice offensive/defensive combo at the shooting guard position.   8)  Dallas signing Marcin “The Polish Hammer” Gortat – Assuming that Orlando doesn’t match the offer [...]

AUTHOR: | IN: NBA, Uncontested Shots | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

The NBA free agent period is at it’s halfway point and while many of the top names are signed there are still a number of valuable names still available. What better time for my latest round of Uncontested Shots? Without further ado, here goes: Mavs Get Shawn Marion in four-way trade with Raptors, Magic, and Grizzlies As expected the Dallas Mavericks acquired combo forward Shawn Marion in a sign-and-trade deal with the Raptors that the Grizzlies helped to facilitate. The Mavericks get Marion as well as Nathan Jawai, Kris Humphries, and former Mav Greg Buckner from Memphis, the Raptors get [...]

Orlando Pro Summer League Day 4 Winners And Losers

AUTHOR: | IN: NBA | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

With a trip to Key West, FL pending..today’s version is going to abbreviated. But nonetheless, bring on the winners and losers! Winners B.J. Mullens – 9 for 12, 18 points and 5 rebounds. If thats not a winning performance I don’t know what is. Derrick Brown – Ok go get em rook. 25 and 5 on 10 of 15 shooting will work anyday. Chris Lofton – Got to love what the long range bomber did on Day 4. 6 three’s on the way to 21 points. He probably may never play in the NBA but Lofton is definitely a world [...]

NBA Power Rankings: Does Dirk Finally Have A Reason To Smile?

AUTHOR: | IN: NBA, Power Rankings | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

The NBA off-season definitely has been frenetic and frenzied.  Here is a new SCIC monthly feature that offers some insight into how all 30 teams stack up: Western Conference: 1)  Los Angeles Lakers - Inking Artest was nice, but Mitch Kupchak can’t afford to let Odom slip away 2)  San Antonio Spurs – RJ, McDyess and Blair make the Spurs a top contender again 3)  Dallas Mavericks – Best off-season in the league so far; Dirk now has the supporting cast to win a title 4)  Denver Nuggets – Good move re-signing the Birdman even if the price was steep 5)  Utah Jazz – Overcrowded [...]

Orlando Pro Summer League Day 3 Winners and Losers

AUTHOR: | IN: NBA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Now three days into the summer league and the Pacers remain undefeated at 3-0 while the Netsers haven’t gotten their first win yet and are still 0-3. I have to admit I didn’t get to see much of Day 3′s games, I only saw little pieces of each game so most of my judgments are going to be off the boxscores, which I know doesn’t always tell the full story, but we’ll see how we do. Winners Indiana’s Twin Towers – The Pacers combination of Tyler Hansbrough and Roy Hibbert were absolutely dominant against the Jazz. Now you do have [...]

Checking In With Charles: Kahntastrophe, Dumbars & Megan Fox

AUTHOR: | IN: Checking In With Charles, NBA | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Shawn Kemp has graciously agreed to stop by today to be a guest interviewer and ask Chuck some questions: 1) Who do you think has done a more brutal job as a general manager during the past six weeks:  David Kahn or Joe Dumars? Didn’t Dumars fire Michael Curry a couple weeks ago because of his inexperience as a head coach?  Am I missing something? The most comical part is that the new coach, John Kuester, was the “offensive coordinator” of the Cavs last year.  What exactly did he coordinate?  I can’t wait to watch Kuester spread the court so Ben Gordon can go 1 on 5 and [...]

Orlando Pro Summer League Day 2 Winners and Losers

AUTHOR: | IN: NBA | COMMENTS: None Yet

So two days into the Orlando Pro Summer League and teams are sorting out a little bit. The Pacers behind their huge frontline is 2-0 and the team with presumably the most talent (since they’ve combined two teams) the Nets/Phila hybrid is 0-2. Everyone else, 1-1. With that..onto the winners and losers! Winners Ryan Anderson – Ryan Anderson is using this Orlando Summer league as his own personal playground. He followed up his Game 1, 21 and 7 with a monster 33 and 14. Shooting 73% from the floor. Doing it in front of his home fans too, Orlando should [...]

Uncontested Shots – NBA News, Notes, and Observations From a Self-Described B-Ball Geek

AUTHOR: | IN: NBA, Uncontested Shots | COMMENTS: None Yet

San Antonio Rolling the Dyess? After Rasheed Wallace told his agent Bill Strickland to cancel visits he had scheduled for San Antonio, Orlando, and Dallas because he’d decided to join the Boston Celtics the Spurs had to turn their attention elsewhere. It appears that GM R.C. Buford and head coach Gregg Popovich have turned their attention to Antonio McDyess. According to Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowski the Spurs have emerged as the leader to land the services of the 14-year veteran from Mississippi. Wojo reports that the Spurs, along with the Magic and Cavaliers, are the three teams prepared to make offers [...]

Orlando Summer League Day 1 Winners and Losers

AUTHOR: | IN: NBA | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

With Day 1 in the books of the Orlando Pro Summer League lets take a look at the winners and losers of the first day… Winners Marreese Speights – Though he seemingly shot the ball everytime he touched it (26 FGA), Speights was a man amongst boys on Day 1. He finished with a double double 28 points and 11 rebounds and generally cannot be handled. Terrence Williams’ All Around Game – In what could be a microcosm of his NBA career, at least in the early going, TWill struggled with his shot (1-8) but his all around game shined. [...]
