Still Magic After All These Years – Magic Johnson

Magic Johnson turns 50 today and Sir Charles In Charge would just like to honor him.

I grew up after Magic’s era of basketball, but from watching classic games and watching highlights, its quite easy to see the greatness with which Magic played the game. I don’t think there will be anyone quite like him ever again.

Its easy to see that huge smile and the joy with which he played and remember him for that. But upon further investigation, you realize what an absolute competitor he was and how often he came out on top. Five NBA titles.

And lastly, has there ever been or will there ever be a greater combination of player and nickname? Describing Earvin Johnson’s game as “Magic” is the definition of personification. It is the perfect marriage of player and nickname.

Here’s just a collection of some of Magic’s great moments.

His Top 10 Plays in His Career:

How about the end of the 1992 All-Star Game. Jordan isolated on Magic, and then Magic hitting a three over Isiah.

My opinion the true definition of a point guard is making whatever play is necessary. Here is Magic, taking the game upon himself. Probably his most famous shot.

And finally, doesn’t get as much play, but another game winner from Magic against the Celtics.
