He’s back. Maybe.

According to a report via Yahoo! NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Denver Nuggets are set to interview former L.A. Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro at some point this weekend.

Denver fired George Karl earlier this month — shortly after earning NBA Coach of the Year honors. They eyebrow raising decision came after Karl led his Nuggets to a franchise-best 57 win season.

Memphis head coach Lionel Hollins and Indiana Pacers assistant Brian Shaw are two other names that have been associated to the Denver Nuggets gig.

Del Negro is known for his ability to develop young talent. In Chicago, he helped develop a young Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah. With the Clippers, he did well with Blake Griffin.

Not sure if the Nuggets fit that role of overwhelming young talent. Denver seems to have their core well defined — if in fact they choose to continue down that path. After last year’s 57-win season, I don’t see why not.

This move would be a bit surprising, but not far-fetched. Del Negro, at some point, is expected to be back in the league, but not sure if Denver is the place.

Shaw and Hollins should be the Nuggets first choices, but why blame them for preparing for the whiff?
