NBA Draft 2013: Washington Wizards

Quietly, the Washington Wizards have put together solid drafts in two of their last three years. If they want to continue that trend, they need to make a smart, safe pick in the No. 3 hole on Thursday night.

With all that said, Otto Porter comes to mind.

Many describe Porter as the “unsexy” pick, but that’s what the Wizards need. They can’t afford to take chances right now. They need quality.

SI’s Andy Glockner says Porter may be the “surest thing in this draft”. A perfect match.

Why? Well, he can do just about anything, and everything, on the basketball court. He has above average handles, a solid jump shot and can defend. His 6-foot-8 frame makes him a prototypical small forward at the next level — could even see time as a 4 in the NBA’s new smallball philosophy.

The 19-year-old 205 pound forward will have to put on some weight, though. But the thing with Porter is that he can just be plugged into the lineup — from day one.

There may be other prospects with better upside available in this spot (cough, Anthony Bennett, cough), but Porter to the Wizards just makes sense.

SCIC MOCK: With the No. 3 pick in the NBA Draft, the Washington Wizards select Otto Porter.
