Chis Kaman is new to this whole Kobe Byrant thing. This will be the first year he’s actually going to play with the 5-time NBA champion, but it’s safe to say that he already has a nice grasp of how this season is going to be.
Kaman sat down with ESPNLosAngeles.com, and he talk about the Black Mamba:
Q: Obviously you were in the same city as Kobe for a long time, but seeing him up close, being a teammate, how would you describe that experience so far?
I always hated him. When you play against a guy like him, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, you don’t like them because they’re so competitive. I respect that, but I don’t like playing against them. But when you’re on their team, it’s a whole different story. You love the people. They’re good guys.
Kobe, he’s just been working hard trying to get himself ready. He comes to practice and he works his butt off. I respect that as well. I’m excited for him to play. I’m hoping sooner than later.
If competitiveness is what turns Kaman the wrong way, he better prepare himself for a long, really long season. To be honest, Kobe doesn’t just turn off his competitiveness once you join his squad. If anything, it will pick up.
If it’s any consolation, though, it has to be better to play with Kobe, than against him, right? With that said, I’m sure there will be nights when Kaman will actually be hating Kobe more than he likes him.
Sorry for that spoiler alert, Kaman.
