Carmelo Anthony just broke the hearts of the entire state of New York with his recent comments.
“I want to be a free agent,” Anthony told the New York Observer. “I think everybody in the NBA dreams to be a free agent at least one time in their career. It’s like you have an evaluation period, you know. It’s like if I’m in the gym and I have all the coaches, all the owners, all the GMs come into the gym and just evaluate everything I do. So yes, I want that experience.”
Technically, Anthony has two year’s left on his current contract but can opt-out of it after this season. These comments come just a couple months after the New York Knicks forward told Newsday this:
“I’m not going nowhere,” Anthony said…
“That is one of the reasons why I wanted to come here to New York, just so I could take on those pressures and those challenges,” Anthony said. “A lot of people do not like to deal with the pressure. A lot of people do not know how to deal with the challenges they face. To me, it is everyday life.”
Again, to be clear, Anthony could still honestly want to remain a Knick when it’s all said and done. Maybe he just wants to become a free agent just for the experience. Still, for Knicks fans, this can’t be a good thing.
The fact that Los Angeles is going to have an opportunity to get into Anthony’s ear is the worst-case scenario for them.
Although, Carmelo Anthony, Los Angeles Lakers forward does have a nice ring to it…
