It had been too long since the Chicago Bulls fans had the opportunity to cheer on their MVP. On Wednesday, Rose made his long-awaited return to the Windy City and made it count, scoring 22 points in 22 minutes against the Detroit Pistons.
The former MVP received a tumultuous ovation during the introductions and did not disappoint his fans, scoring 18 first half points. Rose sat out the previous game against Washington due to soreness in his surgically repaired knee.
First, he went vintage:
Then, he went crossover, lean, And 1 off the glass:
“Welcome to Rose University. Class is in session.”
Rose hit 6 of 9 shots and was 9 for 10 on free throws in his 22 minutes on the floor.
Perhaps he saw what Kevin Durant did Tuesday and felt that he needed to one up him. Either way, the flashes that Rose has shown at times in preseason is unreal. Rose told us he was 100 percent and he’s straight-up backing it — apart from the whole soreness thing. Of course, that was probably more of a precaution than anything.
The Bulls have four more preseason games and then we play for reals, guys.
That first “for reals” game happens to be against the two-time defending champs on October 29 in South Beach.
