Raise your hand if you had Metta World Peace starting for the New York Knicks on opening night…put your hand down.
But according to Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, it all but appears that World Peace will be getting the nod as the Knicks starting three on Wednesday night. This basically means that the Knicks will be playing small this year – starting Melo at the four.

“I didn’t expect it, we didn’t expect it,’’ Anthony said. “That’s what he’s going with. I think guys are ready for the move. Everyone seems on board with that. Whatever position we have to play, we have to go out and do it.’’
The Knicks did well (better) with Melo as the four – he’s able to take bigger power forwards off the dribble and if other teams want to play him small, he can take them into the post. Perfect fit, in a way.
This also helps the Knicks because Bargnani on defense is just an adventure to watch. World Peace can bring defense to the wing, I’m not sure what else though.
How does Melo feel about this? About playing his “unnatural position?
“It really doesn’t matter to me,’’ Anthony said of playing the 3 or 4. “I’ve been successful in this league at the 3. Last year, I was successful at the 4. Whatever adjustments I have to make, I have to make. I’m willing to do that.’’
In other words, he doesn’t care. He jus wants to win, and starting Bargnani simply doesn’t give him the best opportunity to do that.
The Knicks open the season tonight against the Milwaukee Bucks.
