NBA Trade Rumors: Raptors Trying To Trade Rudy Gay?

Most times, GM’s just want their own guys. In the Toronto Raptor’s case, Rudy Gay just isn’t Masai Ujiri’s guy. He was a last-ditch move by Bryan Colangelo before Ujiri took his place.

Ujiri traded Andrea Bargnani this summer and it appears that Rudy Gay could be next on the chopping block.

Sources say he has talked about moving Rudy Gay, but he has been patient. He dealt Andrea Bargnani, built a bench that may double as a self-destruct button, and prepared.

Gay will make $17.8 million this season and has a player option for next season ($19.3 million) — at age 27 he is expected to opt out, become a free agent and seek the security of a longer deal. The Raptors can offer five years, other teams four.

It’s unlikely the Raptors will offer anything near that high, and if Ujiri doesn’t want him or if he doesn’t think he can keep him, he may have to pull the trigger.

It looks like Ujiri wants to blow things up in Toronto a bit, or at least eliminate guys that he doesn’t believe are the future for the Raptors. Gay doesn’t appear to be that. Even if he doesn’t get traded this year, expect him to walk at some point during the summer.

I hate all these bogus headlines. Raptors trading rudy gay!, GM looking to trade gay! Then you read the article on total speculation how they might trade gay. Isn’t every team considering trading a player if the right price comes along. I’m not saying they won’t trade him before the season but Uijiri hasn’t said he wanted to trade him.

He hasn’t said it publicly, but it’s been discussed behind closed doors. It’s a real possibility.
