Carmelo Anthony says that his number one concern right now is figuring out how to resurrect the Knicks from the bottom feeders.
“Nobody should be worried about me. I’m going to be fine. I’m not even thinking about contracts or BS like that,” Anthony said. “I’ll think about that in the offseason. Right now, my duty is to lead this team to win some basketball games, hopefully to win a championship. That’s my duty. Nobody should be worried about Carmelo Anthony.”
We all know that Melo has gone on record saying that he’ll opt-out of his current deal and “test free agency”. Whatever he means by that. He’s also said that he wants to retire as a Knick. So I don’t really know what he’s thinking.
“Everybody’s kind of shaken up a little bit, not knowing how to figure it out, not knowing what’s going on,” Anthony said. “I don’t know if it’s a lot of distractions or things like that but I don’t want to make excuses because we’re just not putting forth the effort.”
That’s putting it nicely. Right now, the Knicks look bad. Like, really bad. So bad that they might drive Melo to LA. What a lot of people don’t understand is that he can sign a deal in LA, then come back to New York to retire. AMIRITE?
I’ve been on record saying that I think Melo leaves New York. The way they’ve started the season, I bet more people are going to start coming around on that premise. Maybe that’s why the Knicks happen to be overreacting with all these rumors — desperately finding something that would keep Melo around. After all, it’s not going to be this season’s performance that’s going to do the trick.
That ship has a sailed.
