New York Knicks: Is Carmelo Anthony recruiting Rajon Rondo to NY?

He doesn’t share the same philosophy as Derrick Rose, because apparently Carmelo Anthony does in fact recruit other players.

In a really nice feature story, USA Today spoke with Anthony’s high school coach, Steve Smith, in which he admitted that Anthony is in fact recruiting Rajon Rondo.

STEVE SMITH: No, I think he should be fine. He took a long time off and he’s rehabbed the right way. Whether he stays in Boston or not who knows. I know, talking to Melo , he’s recruiting Rajon to come to New York. Melo thinks he’ll come, too. You never know about that stuff though. I think either way, Rajon will be fine.

First things first, if this is in fact accurate, this would imply that Anthony intends to stay in New York past this season. It also implies that he will probably have to be patient, because the Knicks don’t have money to spend until 2015. Plus, it begs the question as to whether the Boston Celtics have reached out to the Knicks about dealing Rondo — or vice versa.

Could this be Anthony’s last-ditch effort to remain a Knick past this season? Maybe. If the Knicks haven’t tried calling the Celtics on Rondo, expect it to become a story pretty soon.
