It’s been tossed around and rumored, but is the possibility of the New York Knicks trading Carmelo Anthony to the Los Angeles Clippers for Blake Griffin really a thing? Like, could it really happen?
Well, according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, it’s already been discussed internally by the Knicks (and the Clippers probably too).
With the looming possibility of Carmelo Anthony departing New York as a free agent this summer, New York Knicks officials have discussed proposing a trade to the Los Angeles Clippers for Blake Griffin, according to league sources.
Sources say Clippers management has also had internal discussions about such a deal but that the clubs have not yet spoken to one another about a potential trade.
One source close to the situation said the Clippers’ latest internal discussion ended in favor of keeping Griffin.
Even though, reportedly, it’s being said that it’s not known if either the Knicks or Clippers would even consider making the trade, it’s interesting that they even “discussed” it internally. That proves that both teams are open to the idea and that they’ve at least thought about it. That’s a good sign for the Knicks, if they’re openly trying to trade Melo before he walks this summer.
If nothing else, it’s something to keep a close eye on. One thing that I just can’t figure out: who’s considered the better player in the basketball community, and who would you rather want (between the two) for the next three years?
