NBA Injury Roundup: Gay, Bargnani and Antic updates

According to Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express-News, Leonard broke the fourth metacarpal bone in his right hand when his finger got bent back as he tried to get around a screen during the Spurs loss to the Thunder on Wednesday night.

Leonard is only expected to miss 3-4 weeks with the injury.

Gay’s MRI on Thursday only revealed a strain on his foot/ankle and will be re-evaluated after 3-5 days of being in a walking boot. Gay left the Kings’ loss to the Rockets with what feared to be an Achilles injury.

Since joining the Kings, Gay has been averaging 20.1 points per game.

The New York Knicks announced Thursday that Andrea Bargnani has suffered a torn ligament in his elbow. Apparently, the injury occurred on the much talked about “fail” dunk during the third quarter of their game against the Philadelphia 76ers. He is out indefinitely.

Antic is expected to miss approximately 2-4 weeks with a stress fracture in his right ankle. In his last three games, he’d been averaging better than 12 points and seven rebounds per night. In additions, Antic is shooting 37 percent from three.

Atlanta Hawks forward/center Pero Antic suffered a mild right ankle sprain against the Brooklyn Nets in London on Jan. 16. X-rays taken following the game were negative and he continued to play without missing games. An MRI and examination today by Dr. Ashok Reddy at Peachtree Orthopedics in Atlanta revealed a stress fracture to his right ankle. He will now be placed in a protective walking boot.
