Practically everyone has chimed in on whether or not Carmelo Anthony will return to the New York Knicks next season. As we all know he’s going to opt-out and then “test free agency” this summer. Still, there’s a very good chance that he could return to the Knicks — if he wants.
His wife has commented, Melo has, former Knicks players have and now Knicks center Tyson Chandler is giving his two cents.
Chandler says that he believes that Anthony is “locked in” right now, and that “he’s a Knick”. Whatever being a “Knick” means. Basically, what Chandler is trying to say is that he is under the understanding the Melo wants to be a Knick. I think. At least, that’s how it kind of came out.
“The one thing that I know is he is locked [in], and he is a Knick,” Knicks’ center Tyson Chandler said. “He showed that. When times were rough, he went out of his way to make sure that every guy was okay and that everyone understood we’re in it together. If we’re going to sink or go down, we’re going to go down together. At the end of the day, we’re going fight together and I appreciate that.”
I guess the fact that Melo hasn’t “checked out” says a lot about his desire to change the culture in New York, which he’s failed to do in the three-plus years he’s been there. He loves it in New York and would become a god if he ever brought a championship there, but that’s a big “if”.
With that said, his decision could very well depend on how the Knicks fare in the second half of the season. And if the first half of the season was any indication, it’s not going to end well.
