NBA Trade Rumors: Lakers, Mavs foolishly chasing Kevin Love trade

If the Los Angeles Lakers sucked, they’d be the New York Knicks. Honestly.

Like most Knicks fans, the Lakers fans have their sense of entitlement when it comes to who they want to play for their decorated franchise – and they’re at it once again.

However, this time they’re being joined by the Dallas Mavericks.

As we all know, Kevin Love is a very desired commodity right now. He’s been linked to the Lakers for some time now and it appears that the Mavs have joined the Love fan club. And while Love technically can’t talk to either of those teams until after next season, the Lakers are Mavs are not waiting for the 2015 free agency period. Reports say that they’re trying to get him now.

The Lakers and Mavericks are trying to assemble trade offers for prospective free agent Kevin Love, but thus far the Timberwolves have given no indication they’ll consider moving the All-Star forward by Thursday’s deadline, league sources told CBSSports.com.

Apart from laughing, there is no acceptable reaction to this. There’s absolutely no way that Minnesota is going to trade their best player right now. Not when they feel they are going to re-sign him. Love hasn’t said anything about free agency, or about leaving Minnesota. So why exactly should they give him the Carmelo Anthony treatment?

Oh, because the Lakers say they want him? Or because Mark Cuban is waving cash in the air, oh so you’re saying he took time away from his precious ‘Shark Tank’?

The Lakers and Mavs are chasing Love, at the moment, foolishly. There’s nothing that is going to come of this. If anything, they’re both just wasting their time. And for the Lakers, it’s costly. This is time that they could be using in trying to orchestrate a trade to get something in exchange for Pau Gasol – because you know that Gasol isn’t re-signing in LA this summer.

And as for the Mavs, who the heck are they going to offer the T-Wolves? Draft picks? Meh. The over/under on how long that phone conversation lasted has to be around 90 seconds.

I have the under.

No matter what happens, Lakers fans are going to Laker. They’re still sold on the fact that Love is heading to LA. Even if he is, it’s not going to be until 2015 at the earliest.

It’s foolish to be talking about it right now.
