Phoenix Suns' Leonardo Barbosa out 4-6 weeks

Phoenix Suns guard Leandro Barbosa is expected to miss a significant amount of time with a fractured left hand, the team announced late Tuesday night.

Barbosa left the floor during the first half of the Suns 104-96 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers with the fear that his left hand was significantly injured. After examinations, their fear was proven right.

Paul Coro of AZCentral.com reports that Barbosa will be out at least four weeks with the injury, but the Suns have set the timeline for six weeks.

With the Suns trying to make that last-ditch playoff push, the injury to Barbosa can’t be good.

Right now Phoenix currently is clinging to the 8th and final spot in the Western Conference Playoffs, but the Memphis Grizzlies are just a half game out. Barbosa had been a key energy contributor off the bench prior to the injury, along with averaging nearly eight points per game in just 19 minutes per game.

Barbosa was just beginning to create a bigger role for himself on the Suns, but this injury will have drastic measures to that, and the Suns playoff push.

While the Suns won’t use the Barbosa injury as an excuse for missing out on the playoffs, losing a bench contributor this late in the season doesn’t help any.
