Not much has gone right for the Philadelphia 76ers this season, and for the most part, they’re OK with it. However, apart from winning the 2014 NBA draft lottery, they’re about to get the next best thing — the return of their other 2013 NBA first round pick.
Nerlens Noel still hasn’t played a game for the Sixers this season, but that could be coming to an end shortly. Noel sent out this cryptic tweet yesterday:
But if you’re one of those people that says: well you can’t read too much into a tweet. After all, the Sixers have been pretty quiet along the Noel front and have already said that he would “likely” sit out the season (of course, that was said in December). He also said, in that same interview, that there was a “possibility” that he could in fact play. It’s looking more and more like the latter.
And Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer explains Noel’s cryptic tweet to a certain extent.
Nerlens Noel would like to make his 76ers debut in his hometown of Boston on April 4, according to sources. They confirmed that’s why the rookie center tweeted “4-4-14” in reference to April 4, 2014 on Sunday afternoon.
The Sixers (15-47) play at TD Bank that evening against the Boston Celtics.
The sources said this is just a wish that he had not disclosed to the Sixers as of Sunday afternoon.
While the Sixers don’t have much to play for this season, at least they can give the fans something to look forward too. You know, apart from potentially winning the Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins sweepstakes.
In case you forgot who Noel was, here are some of his highlights during his stint at Kentucky.
