NBA Rumors: Bulls, Clips, Lakers, Rockets to pursue Carmelo Anthony

Carmelo Anthony is going to be a hot commodity this offseason. Even though his team failed to secure a playoff spot — despite how dreadful the Eastern Conference has been this season — most believe that he is not to blame for such circumstances.

(For the record, he shouldn’t be blamed, either)

Free agency hasn’t even arrived yet, and we’ve already seen a myriad of NBA rumors surface regarding the future of Carmelo Anthony — and it’s just going to get worst.

As the first week of July continues to trickle closer, you’re going to hear about teams that “potentially” could chase Melo this offseason. However, we’re probably not going to know who really (seriously) wants him, until teams can actually talk about Anthony without getting hit with a tampering fine.

Nevertheless, Ian Begley of ESPN New York is giving us a sneak pick at said list. According to him, the Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets are going to join Chicago and New York in the pursuit of Anthony this offseason, as they should.

He should have a number of suitors on the open market. The Knicks can sign him to a five-year contract worth $129,135,806. If he signs with another team, the maximum he can get is $95,897,372 over four years.

The Bulls, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers are among a group of teams expected to pursue him this summer.

Should be an interesting summer for such an interesting player. For once, it could be all about Carmelo and not about LeBron.

Maybe.

I’m not a Melo fan… but i think if he played under Coach Tibs in CHI, he would play more the way he did with the olympic team… and for once, he will know that it’s not HIS team…

The EAST, however, will get even more top-heavy: MIA, INDY, CHI… if Melo goes to the Bulls

The Lakers have already indicated they have no interest in Melo. I’d be surprised if he left NY. The Bulls would be the logical place if he’s looking to leave, but he’s going to be expected to play defense and share the ball. Don’t see the Clippers or Rockets going after him, but anything is possible. He does bear part of the blame for what happened in NY this season. His style of play is detrimental to team play. He always gets his numbers, but the team doesn’t get the wins. He’s not the only problem, but he was part of it.

Why wouldn’t the Rockets go after him? Morey has already inquired about Melo once at the most recent trade dealine, and considering he just had his best season ever I don’t see what makes him any less valuable now.

He’s injury prone, and I don’t see him fitting into the Houston offense. He’s a ball-stopper, and that’s the last thing you need when you run the kind of offense Houston runs. Houston needs better defenders, and Carmelo doesn’t play great defense. I just don’t think he would be a great fit in Houston. I personally don’t like his game. He’s a great shooter when he’s on, and he’s going to score because he’s going to keep shooting. If he could be a more team-oriented player I might change my mind, but I’ll believe that when I see it. I would be looking for younger, more athletic players. I don’t know Houston’s salary cap situation, but I wouldn’t want to pay the kind of money it would take to get him.
