NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks Would “Overpay” for Zach Randolph

The Dallas Mavericks have already made it known that they want no business in overpaying Carmelo Anthony in the terms of giving the perennial All-Star a max contract this summer. One star, however, who they are willing to overpay for is Memphis Grizzlies potential free agent Zach Randolph.

According to Eddie Sefko of The Dallas Morning News, the two players that he can envision the Mavs overpaying for this offseason are Randolph… and Al-Farouq Aminu.

There are two guys I would overpay. First, Zach Randolph. He’s not a max player, but if you think he’s the answer to your rebounding problems and can fit on the other side of the court away from Dirk Nowitzki, then he’d be a great fit. Pay the man. The other is Al Farouq-Aminu. Yes, you read that right. And by overpay, I mean you give him a mid-level exception or maybe a bit more if you feel you have stiff competition. He’s not a shooter, but his defense and rebounding would serve nicely as a replacement if Shawn Marion moves on. Again, I threw out players like Ariza, Deng, Gortat and a few others because those players are going to get huge money from somebody, so I don’t consider that overpaying.

Randolph averaged 17.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this season for the Grizzlies. Though, he isn’t a free agent unless he opts-out of his final year of his contract this summer, which is looking more and more likely with every passing day.

Meanwhile, Aminu averaged 7.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game with the New Orleans Pelicans this season.
