All of a sudden, Steve Kerr is a wanted man in the NBA. You know, assuming you count two teams wanting you as being a “wanted man”.
The Golden State Warriors fired head coach Mark Jackson on Tuesday afternoon. They apparently wasted no time in moving on, as Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reported that the Warriors had already contacted Kerr by Tuesday night.
And while on paper it would be unintelligent for Kerr to choose the Knicks over the Warriors (simply based on rosters), it’s not that simple. Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski paints it out for us via Twitter.
Expectation had been Steve Kerr would be ready to start contract talks with Knicks by Monday, but still hasn’t happened, sources tell Yahoo.
While a strong possibility Kerr will minimally have a conversation w/ Warriors his “preference”– so far — remains New York, source says.
This is a life-changing choice for Kerr. He has leverage in New York, where Phil Jackson has no real Plan B. Kerr is wise to take his time.
Kerr is expected to make a decision soon, and it could come as early as Thursday or Friday according to Isola. Expect him to join Jackson in New York, though. Despite what logic indicates.
