We all know the two top market players available are Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Love. The Los Angeles Lakers will be very active in the pursuit for both of those players. However, if they fail to land either of those stars, according to the LA Daily News (via NetsDaily) they will then focus on Nets guard Deron WIlliams. Some reports have been surfacing that he has been displaying some discomfort in Brooklyn, but has yet to officially request a trade.
Another target for the Lakers is veteran point guard Deron Williams, who has been sub par for the past two seasons in Brooklyn. Williams, former perennial All-Star, wants to get out from his current situation with the Nets in hope of reviving his career with a championship contender team.
Many other media outlets also reported the Nets could consider putting Williams on the trading block, if the point guard continues to push his request. Based on his past disappointing seasons in Brooklyn, it may not be the best deal to pull off, but the Lakers do need a point guard and Williams is definitely one that fits that mold.
The Lakers do have the No. 7 overall pick in the 2014 draft, and if they make a play for Williams, they could translate their focus to a big man which is more likely to be available with their pick with either Julius Randle or Aaron Gordon.
It could work since Williams is still a good distributor of the ball, which is what Kobe needs. The deal may be far-fetched at this point since all Williams has himself said is, “he lost some confidence.” But if he does express more interest in wanting a trade, then expect the Lakers to be one of the first teams to contact the Nets.
