The best thing about San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich (other than the fact that he’s the best college in all of basketball) is the fact that he doesn’t take his job too seriously.
Sometimes. OK, on rare occasions.
And after their Game 3 106-97 (link) loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night, was another one of those “rare” times in which Popovich was able to see a more humorous side to the matter.
After the game, when asked about the injury status of sixth-man extraordinaire Manu Ginobli, Popovich took a quit-witted mild shot at the Thunder.
Mild shot, or perhaps he was just releasing some frustration over the fact that Serge Ibaka, who was originally “supposed” to miss the rest of the postseason, made a miraculous two-game recovery.
Either way, I’m sure Pop and the Spurs didn’t really expect Ibaka to miss the entire series, but I’m not all too sure that they expected the defensive specialist to make a return for Game 3. That’s kind of soon, no?
Pop, I don’t think this misleading timetable regarding Ginobili is going to work. Just a hunch.
