At times, Lance Stephenson looks like the best player on the court. At other times, he just looks like an idiot.
Stephenson, who is coming off a 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game regular season, is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. And a growing opinion around the organization is that it won’t be the best of decisions to give Stephenson a rich, long-term contract after this season. Mostly because of the way he has handled himself this season.
In the past three years, all of the Pacers’ core players — Hill, Hibbert, West, George — have been signed to long-term deals. Now it is Stephenson’s turn. Bird has always supported him. He stuck his neck out to draft him despite Stephenson’s checkered past and red flags. Despite Stephenson’s tantalizing talents, sources said there are many in the organization who don’t think it’s a good decision to give him a rich, long-term contract, given the way he has acted during the season.
Here are a few of the things that Stephenson has done throughout his young career that could potentially have cost him his future in Indiana…
Lance blows in LeBron James‘ ear.
Lance calls LeBron James weak.
Lance says that he hopes Dwyane Wade’s knee flares up.
Lance picks up technical foul late in game vs Heat, gets tossed.
Lance throws a fit when he is taken out of game vs Hawks.
And last, but not least, throws the choke sign at LeBron two years ago.
So, you be the judge. Is Lance worth the trouble?
