July 5th — the day the Los Angeles Lakers officially became players in the 2014 NBA free agency period.

With Carmelo Anthony all but re-signing with the New York Knicks after meeting with Phil Jackson on Friday night, per reports, apparently there was one team whose pitch to Anthony had a little more of a lasting effect — the Lakers’.

And with that, let’s hit July 5th’s NBA free agency rundown as we prepare for what should shape up to be a pretty significant week.

Miami Heat president Pat Riley met with Luol Deng.

Rockets, Cavs are trying to max room for a max contract.

Chris Bosh is setting up an issuance plan, in case he can’t/doesn’t return to Miami.

In other news, the Celtics are still trying to get Kevin Love.

In probably the biggest story of the day, the Los Angeles Lakers are one “yes” away from being relevant again.
