It was July 8, 2010 during a live special on TV that LeBron James announced he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat. Cavaliers fans had very little to be excited about as they would do no better than 33 wins since James left. However, June 24, 2014 James opted out of his deal with the Heat and became a free agent. After weeks of rumors and speculation it became official Friday, LeBron James is coming back to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The franchise that burned his jersey, called him names and promised to win a title before him is now putting up welcome back banners and re-purchasing his jersey again. James told SI.com that Cleveland was the only place that he wanted to play for other than Miami. He now returns home looking to bring the Cavaliers that illusive NBA Title and this time he’s a better player, smarter player and most importantly a tougher player.
During his first stint with Cleveland he was only able to get to one NBA Finals but I imagine LeBron will have several opportunities to win one for Cleveland this time. This seems like the place LeBron wants to finish his career and bringing a title to Cleveland would certainly plant his legacy among the greats.
LeBron will now team up with Kyrie Irving and possibly another superstar in Cleveland. Most rumors are saying that Cleveland will find a way to get Kevin Love from the Minnesota Timberwolves, thus creating the new big 3. Love would be an ideal fit with LeBron but almost any player would fit when it comes to being paired with the NBA’s best player.
I’m happy for LeBron, I feel like he’s at peace being back home and I can only imagine winning that first Cleveland sports title in over 50 years will make it even sweater, being back home.
