Kyrie Irving is in the business of stating the obvious.
Like the rest of the stat of Ohio, the city of Cleveland and nearly the entire United States (with the exception of the state of Florida), Irving is excited for the return of LeBron James to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The fourth-year point guard, speaking Saturday at his basketball camp at Independence (Ohio) High School, said he has a “great feeling” about the upcoming season.
“It’s an exciting time, I can tell you that,” Irving said, according to Fox Sports Ohio. “Everything is happening.”
“I was excited,” Irving said. “You have to empathize with the guy. I think we all felt his emotions with his essay (on SI.com). … I found out like everyone else found out.”
LeBron James announced July 11 that he was headed “back home” in a letter to Sports Illustrated. Irving agreed to sign a max contract extension a few days before.
The stars literally had to align perfectly this offseason for the Cavs — and they did.
In reality, Irving should just be glad that he’s going to be able to ride the best player in the world’s coattail during the prime of his career. Not too bad, to say the least.
Get a couple rings, make a hundred million.
With that incentive, I’d be excited about LeBron’s return too.
