Andrew Wiggins just wants to be loved.
Earlier today on ESPN’s Sportscenter, Wiggins said that he wants to play for a team that wants him. Was that a subtle shot at the Cleveland Cavaliers? Perhaps.
“I just want to play for a team that wants me. So whichever team wants me I’ll play for,” he told ESPN’s “SportsCenter,” from Tarrytown, New York, where he was taking part in a photo shoot for Panini trading cards.
“At the end of the day you have to remember that the NBA is a business before anything. I’m a rookie. I really don’t have too much say,” he said.
Wiggins has been at the center of trade talks since even before he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers. And when the Cavs landed LeBron James this summer, those talks only gained steamed. Especially after reports stated that LeBron had already held conversations with Love about the potential of teaming up in Cleveland when Love finally managed to pry himself away from the Timberwolves.
Turns out, that may come sooner than perhaps even both expected. Like in a few weeks.
Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said that he expects Love to be traded by the end of the month. Coincidently, or not, Wiggins is available to be traded in late-August.
Minnesota is looking for a new star to welcome with open arms. Perhaps a Wiggins and Wolves collaboration never made more sense that it potentially does now.
They need each other.
