USA coach Mike Krzyzewski and Team USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo elected to keep the USA squad at 16 until at least Friday night’s final exhibition team in US soil against Puerto Rico.

It had previously been reported that a few cuts could come as soon as Thursday. Obviously, that did not happen. Thus, intrigue transfers to tonight.

But according to Tim Bontemps, who has been around the team, the cuts may in fact be already made. The New York Post writer believes that it’s pretty evident that the first cuts will be Damian Lillard, Andrew Drummond and Gordon Hayward. After that, the final cut will come down to Kyle Korver, DeMar DeRozan, Chandler Parsons, DeMarcus Cousins or Mason Plumlee.

Five players, one more cut to make.

As always, take Bontemps tweets with a grain of salt. Although, at least from previous indications, those seem to be the moves that are being written in tea leaves.

Team USA leaves to Spain Saturday in anticipation for the FIBA World Cup.
