The return of the (T)Mac? Perhaps.
According to Yahoo! Sports, Tracy McGrady reportedly worked out with current Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant earlier this summer in Los Angeles, testing his “preparedness” of his body for a potential NBA comeback.
“Yes, I was working out with K.B. to get in shape and see how my body feels,” McGrady told Yahoo Sports in an email Tuesday night.
Bryant and McGrady, 35, worked out three days a week for a period of time in August, several sources, including McGrady, told Yahoo.
“The comeback will not happen, unless I have the drive whenever I get back,” McGrady told Yahoo in the email.
Wojnarowski writes that two NBA teams were contacted about their potential interest in McGrady, but neither club desired to further explore the possibility.
McGrady last played professional basketball during the 2012-13 season, where he played in China. After the Chinese basketball season in April, the San Antonio Spurs opted to sign McGrady on the final day of the regular season to their playoff roster.
McGrady officially retired from the NBA in August of 2013.
It would be great for McGrady to somehow make an NBA roster and to finally get that elusive ring that he had been searching for late in his career, though, could never find.
Expect contending teams to take a look at McGrady, if he even follows through with a comeback attempt.
