Kevin Durant has reportedly ‘made it known’ that he will sign with OKC or Washington in 2016

More from NBA Rumors

In roughly 21 months, the NBA’s next “decision” that could possibly change the landscape of the league — again — will take place. This time, though, it won’t involve LeBron James. Instead, the summer of 2016 will be headlined by Kevin Durant.

And according to Grantland’s Zach Lowe, Kevin Durant could be already considering coming “home” like LeBron did this past summer. In fact, Lowe goes all the way to say that he’s “made it known” that his decision will come down to the Oklahoma City Thunder and (his hometown) Washington Wizards.

"[via Grantland — H/T CBS Sports]The Texas teams will take their shot if they hear the right intel, and Durant’s hometown Wizards are biding their time in the easier conference. That intel is all over the place, by the way. Some teams are optimistic it will be open season, and others have heard rumblings that Durant has already made it known it will come down to the Thunder and Wizards. Nobody really knows."

Kevin Durant is under contract with the Thunder until the end of next season. He’s not even in his contract year yet, and reports are already beginning to leak.

I can’t even fathom the amount of coverage that the summer of 2016 will feature. Although, I guess it does make things a whole lot easier if his decision is going to come down to the Thunder or Wizards. At least we know that much.

Still, I’m not sure if this is one of those “I wanna stay with OKC, but if I’m leaving anywhere it’s going to be for my hometown” situations, or if it’s one of those “I wanna go home, but if I don’t, the only other place I would land would be in OKC” logics. We just don’t know.

Or, this report can also be completely false.

Also, a lot can change in 20 months. He could win the next two NBA championships in OKC and decide that he wants to keep a dynasty going. We really don’t know what his mindset, or the Thunder or Wizards, are going to look like just before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2016.

It’s actually quite amazing, and refreshing.

With that said, this report does make an awful amount of sense. It could very well come down to OKC and Washington for Kevin Durant in 2016, but it really doesn’t matter right now. That’s the great thing about it.
