Now that the New York Knicks have made it official and fired Derek Fisher, here are five potential candidates to fill their head coaching vacancy

In somewhat of a surprising move, the New York Knicks have decided to part ways with Derek Fisher. After dropping nine of the team’s last 10 games, enough was enough. His replacement for the remainder of this season will be Kurt Rambis.

Although, you would be foolish to believe that Rambis will be the long term answer for the Knicks at head coach. No offense to Rambis, but moving forward he simply does’t move the stick in New York. Plus, there’s that whole Rambis era in Minnesota that automatically discredits him as an NBA-caliber coach.

But, for the time being, there’s not much else New York can do than allow him to take the interim tag for the remainder of the season.

And with an important summer upcoming – you know with the whole biggest free agency in NBA history thing – it’s important that the New York Knicks get their next head coach hiring right. They can’t afford to flop on that front again.

Which is part of the reason why they decided to move on from Fisher now. As ESPN’s Zach Lowe points out, the team knows that there’s plenty of candidates out there that would fare far better than Fisher. The team doesn’t want to miss out on them, so it makes “sense” for them to fire Fisher now.

I suppose.

Nevertheless, here are five potential coaching candidates that the New York Knicks will likely entertain now that they have a head coaching vacancy.
