NBA Trade Rumors: Are the Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets working on a potential blockbuster three-team trade?

(Editor’s Note: Normally, we don’t write on these types of out of the blue rumors, though this one has been garnering much attention on the web and needs to be addressed)

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

For the past week, we’ve been hearing plenty of NBA trade rumors. Although, a great deal of those rumors seem to circulate around only a few teams. Of those teams, the three that continually arise are the Miami Heat, Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets.

While it makes sense, because the Heat are almost always active during the days leading up to the NBA Trade Deadline and because both the Hawks and Rockets have big names that are set to hit free agency this summer, there seems to be something more.

And according to Adam Spolane of SportsRadio 610 in Houston, the Rockets, Heat and Hawks could be working on a potential three-team blockbuster deal. The trade would revolve around Dwight Howard, Al Horford and Hassan Whiteside.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"[via Spolane]I’m told Rockets, Heat, Hawks discussing 3-way. Howard to ATL, Horford and Teague to Mia, Dragic and Whteside, Anderson to Hou."

"Deal is not imminent. Atlanta wants Miami to add Winslow, but I’m told Riley won’t trade himJust so we’re clear, I’m not saying the deal is going to happen, I’m saying it’s being discussed. Lots of moving parts"

In fairness to the rumor world, even though Spolane isn’t Adrian Wojnarowski or Marc Stein, that doesn’t mean that what he’s hearing isn’t true. Nor that it is.

However, the trade would work money-wise and it does make some sort of sense all the way around.

The Heat would definitely like the exchange of more cap flexibility heading into this summer, along with the return of Jeff Teague, who would replace Goran Dragic (who doesn’t fit next to Dwyane Wade) and Al Horford.

The Rockets would get Hassan Whiteside, who has proven can be a force in the NBA. The fact that his name isn’t Dwight Howard helps, too. Daryl Morey would also get his “white whale” in Dragic.

It makes a little less sense for the Hawks, who would only get Dwight Howard. Though, if Horford has in fact informed the team that he likely won’t be re-signing in the offseason, maybe Atlanta is just trying to get what they can. Plus, Dwight reportedly would be interested in playing for Atlanta (his hometown).

With all that said, this rumor could be nothing or Spolane could be on to the biggest deadline trade in quite some time. In fairness, it should be noted that Spolane has broke news before. In the baseball world.
