The New York Knicks and Carmelo Anthony desperately need a divorce, but that’s highly unlikely to happen anytime soon

I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the meeting between Carmelo Anthony and Phil Jackson on Tuesday afternoon.

It seems as if Carmelo’s need/want in New York is dwindling to an end. Knick fans have seen their team win one playoff series with Melo leading the way since the 2011 NBA Playoffs.

It seemed like just yesterday the Knicks were the surprise team in the east! The “I can’t believe this 2010 super team is really this successful” talk quickly turned into “ok what the hell is going on with this dumpster fire of a team” talk.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

Last week their starting point guard just decided to go rogue and not tell anyone affiliated with the Knicks that he wasn’t going to be showing up to work that day.

Rose then followed that stunt up with a quote saying he will be seeking a max contract this offseason (insert Swaggy P meme with question marks all around his head).

The New York Knicks need a change. They are plummeting faster than any team in the league right now. Separating from their star powered face of the franchise would do just the trick, if they can talk him into waiving his no trade clause and oh yeah, find a team willing to take on his fat salary.

Hello, Los Angeles.

The Clippers are the answer to solving this Melo drama. Yes, it’s a long shot that LA would be willing to give up Blake Griffin but hear me out.

Blake hasn’t been the healthiest superstar. In the last three regular seasons, Griffin has played in only 52 percent of their games. That brings down his trade value to a level that wouldn’t be catastrophic for the Clippers if they lost him.

The Clippers also have a big hole in their lineup at the SF position, where Melo would be able to fit like a glove. With his good buddy Chris Paul running the show at point guard, and all of Blake’s touches now being his touches, Carmelo would be happy in his new big city.

Another reason this trade makes a little more sense than any other scenario is that Blake and Carmelo love bright lights and big cities. One city is a tad warmer than the other, but both get a ton of media attention and their fan bases are knowledgable, and opinionated.

From the Knicks point of view, adding Blake Griffin is very sexy. You don’t lose any star power (you might actually gain some), and without a doubt you are adding more production/ versatility. It would allow you to move 7-foot-3 Kristaps to center and have an incredible offensive frontcourt.

Despite this dream scenario, Carmelo Anthony still claims he wants to tough it out and finish his career in New York. He has a no-trade clause for a reason, and says he has no interest in waiving it. This scenario would make sense if the New York Knicks and Carmelo were serious about winning, but that is a serious unknown.
