NBA Trade Rumors: The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly trying to target Paul George in a trade before the deadline

A few days ago, when Mitch Kupchak was still the team’s GM, the Los Angeles Lakers were one of two finalists to land DeMarcus Cousins.

Ultimately, we know how that story turned out – with Cousins being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans, and not the Lakers. However, less than 24 hours before the NBA’s Trade Deadline, the Lakers are reportedly eyeing another big fish.

According to USA Today’s Sam Amick, the Lakers are trying to trade for Paul George.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"[via USA Today]George will be a free agent in the summer of 2018, and it’s no secret that the 26-year-old Palmdale, Calif. native would love nothing more than to sign with his hometown Lakers if the future is bleak in Indiana. The fact that the Lakers are in the process of trying to land George right now, with new lead executive Magic Johnson moving fast to fill that superstar hole that Kobe Bryant left behind, only makes these next two days all the more compelling.Magic & Bird, together again as NBA power brokers, on Day No. 2 of Johnson’s new job. You can’t make this stuff up."

Interestingly, Amick notes that George wants to remain in Indiana. Although, that might not be the final outcome here, especially if the Pacers are legitimately threatened by the thought of him walking scot-free after next season.

The Lakers have a ton of assets to offer, too. So, if the Pacers are legitimately intrigued by the thought of moving George, the Lakers would be one of two things to negotiate with – the other team being the Celtics.
