In our first NBA Mock Draft of the 2017 class, point guards dominate the top 5

As we head into March and the NBA’s stretch run, college basketball continues to heat up and the buzz of prospects has never been hotter. The NBA draft order will continue to be in flux, but here is the first mock draft based on current NBA standings.

** PLEASE NOTE** This mock was finished before the DeMarcus Cousins to New Orleans trade.  Both teams draft positions will change….drastically**

1. Boston Celtics (Via Nets)- Markelle Fultz (Washington, FR, Point Guard)

The Celtics are more than likely focused on making a run in Eastern Conference currently, but I imagine they are keeping an eye on the Nets, who are sprinting their way towards the worst record in the league. The Celtics own the Nets’ first-round pick and all eyes will on be popular consensus pick, Markelle Fultz.

Although the C’s are set at point guard with all-star Isaiah Thomas making huge strides in becoming a NBA superstar, Fultz is too good to pass up.  An offensive juggernaut, Fultz has all the tools needed to be an NBA star. A good long-range shooter, with the addition of a mid-range game and a great motor driving to the basket, makes him a threat all over the offensive end.

The combination of scoring, court vision, passing and play-making makes Fultz too good to pass up and the Celtics have an amazing backcourt for years to come.

Or, they could trade this pick for a Jimmy Butler or Paul George at the draft. Either way, the Celtics are in a great position.
