NBA Rumors: Whispers around the league are linking Doc Rivers to the Orlando Magic, and such reunion could come sometime soon

The LA Clippers, with a core four of Chris Paul, J.J. Redick, DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin, have fallen short of expectations year after year.

With Griffin and Paul expected to hit the open market this summer, some big changes could be looming for a Clippers team that simply isn’t currently constructed for big time winning. Interestingly enough, the biggest change might not even come in the form of a roster facelift.

According to ESPN’s Marc Stein, Doc Rivers could be on the move this summer. Word around the league is that he could be eyeing a return to the Orlando Magic, where his coaching career began in 1999.

More from Sir Charles In Charge

"[via ESPN]There has been persistent chatter for weeks on the NBA’s front-office grapevine that the Orlando Magic and Rivers will explore a reunion down the road. Now, you’re certainly not alone if you’re wondering whether down the road in this case should be measured in months or years.More clarity, though, might not be far off."

Rivers coached the Magic from 1999-2003. He was fired by Orlando after a 1-10 start. That is when his career with the Boston Celtics began.

The Clippers are currently 40-29 and struggling to hold off the Oklahoma City Thunder for the 5th seed in the Western Conference. If LA doesn’t play its cards right, the Clippers could fall all the way to 7th. The Grizzlies are currently just one game back of the Clippers.

If the Clippers indeed want to blow it all up and start over, you could almost pencil the departure of Rivers into fruition. Rivers isn’t the type to stick around for a long rebuild – just ask the Boston Celtics.

At the same time, accepting a role with the Orlando Magic wouldn’t exactly constitute an upgrade. But, hey, change isn’t always bad?
