The Phoenix Suns plan on meeting with Blake Griffin and Paul Millsap as NBA Free Agency begins this weekend
While most of the NBA Free Agent attention will be focused on what Gordon Hayward does during his meetings with the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics and Utah Jazz this weekend, the Phoenix Suns aren’t wasting any time trying to crash the big-name free agent party.
The Suns were reportedly in the market for a star in the days leading up to the NBA Draft. But after coming away empty-handed, it appears that Phoenix will try to fare better in free agency.
According to LA Times reporter Brad Turner, the Suns are scheduled to meet with Blake Griffin Saturday, July 1.

Additionally, it’s also being reported that the Suns aren’t stopping there. Per Phoenix sports radio host John Gambadoro, the Suns are also expected to meet with Paul Millsap.

Clearly, Phoenix is swinging for the fences as free agency sets to tip off this weekend. However, this Griffin meeting could be just a tool used by Blake in order to pry away a five-year offer from the Clippers, who just lost Chris Paul.
Either way, it’s a win for Phoenix.
Additionally, it’s also interesting that ESPN’s Brian Windhorst is essentially spreading that Paul Millsap is long gone. He doesn’t plan to return to Atlanta, per Windy.
Either one of the forwards would be huge wins for the Suns. Even though it doesn’t bring them much closer to the likes of the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets or Golden State Warriors, a competitive Suns team is better for the NBA.

It will likely cost the Suns max offers to secure either one of these free agents, but landing a star isn’t something that the Phoenix have done too often. So, if the opportunity presents itself, this is a no-brainer.
