NBA Free Agency: J.J. Redick will reportedly sign a one-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers

Last season, the Philadelphia 76ers starting backcourt consisted of T.J. McConnell and Gerald Henderson. So much has changed in a matter of a few months.

Roughly a week and a half after the Philadelphia 76ers executed a trade with the Boston Celtics for the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft – which turned into Markelle Fultz – the Sixers have reportedly come to an agreement with J.J. Redick.

He will now start next to Fultz this fall.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to confirm the agreement, though there had been previous whispers about the possibility of Redick landing in Philadelphia.

"[via ESPN]JJ Redick has agreed to a one-year, $23 million deal with the 76ers, league sources tell ESPN.JJ Redick on agreement with 76ers: “It’s where I wanted to be.”"

This deal works for both sides because not only will the Sixers be able to maintain future financial flexibility with this one-year deal, but J.J. Redick will also be able to cash-in perhaps for one more big contract next summer.

Redick played the last four seasons with the LA Clippers. He began his NBA career with the Orlando Magic who eventually traded him to the Milwaukee Bucks in the last year of his contract.

Redick averaged 15 points per game on an impressive 43 percent shooting from three-point range. Interestingly, it was down from his absurd career-high 48 percent shooting from the 2015-16 NBA season.

Even if the Sixers do nothing else this summer, this has to be considered one of their most impressive offseasons in a very long time. Philly’s starting lineup next season is projected to be: Markelle Fultz, J.J. Redick, Robert Covington, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid.

That’s really good, especially considering where this franchise was just two years ago.
