North Carolina’s Ed Davis To Enter NBA Draft

AUTHOR: Andrew Melnick | IN: Draft, NBA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Ed Davis, a 6′9 Sophomore Forward has declared for the NBA draft according to the University of North Carolina. Davis’ Tar Heels had a disappointing season and although Davis had solid numbers (12.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.7 blocks per game), his individual sophomore season was also considered a disappointment after he showed flashes of brilliance as a freshman.
Davis is very raw and is still a while away from really becoming a contributor, but he is still considered a lottery pick.
Davis is unlikely to pull out of the draft.

“He’s doing the right thing, just to get the feedback he needs so he can make a good decision,” coach Seth Greenberg said. “We support him 100 percent. I’ve gotten some feedback, and he’ll get direct feedback from the people he works out for. He’ll have about three or four [...]

Michigan’s Manny Harris To Enter 2010 NBA Draft

AUTHOR: Andrew Melnick | IN: Draft, NBA | COMMENTS: None Yet

Michigan Junior Manny Harris will enter the 2010 NBA Draft. Harris nearly jumped to the pros last year before deciding to return to school in an attempt to lead Michigan to the NCAA tournament. Harris’ Wolverines did not accomplish their goal of making the field of 65, but the blame can’t be placed on Harris, who averaged 18.1 points per game this season.
Harris, 6′5, projects as a Shooting Guard at the next level. Most pundits view Harris as a second round pick.
Mark Snyder of the Detroit Free Press has more on Harris’ decision here.

Complicated in Minnesota

AUTHOR: Justin DeFeo | IN: Draft, NBA | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Certainly one of the biggest storylines of yesterday’s draft was Minnesota’s decision to draft consecutive point guards with the fifth and sixth picks. Newly hired GM David Kahn backed up his decision of drafting Ricky Rubio and Jonny Flynn on back to back picks saying that he believed the two could thrive in the backcourt together.
Personally I don’t see it. Both players thrive with the ball in their hands. And on a team that already employs Al Jefferson and Kevin Love (two other players who need ball in hand) there simply may not be enough ball go around.
The question really [...]

Deconstructing the Draft – Blair is a Double Cheeseburger

AUTHOR: Justin DeFeo | IN: Draft, NBA | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Two hours before the draft was set to start, I had an opportunity to go and play some pick up basketball. The game started at 5:30 and my plan was to play for an hour, get home by 6:30, shower and be ready in time for the pre draft show coverage and the draft. Well, that didn’t work out so well.
A game had finished at 6:19 so I thought I had time to squeeze in one more. On the last game the score was 10-9 (We were playing to 12) and I had the ball on a wing. I was able [...]

AUTHOR: Andrew Ungvari | IN: Draft, NBA | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

If this is the first time any of you have heard of me allow me to give you a quick introduction. My name is Andrew Ungvari and I’m a 32-year-old screenwriter born and raised in Los Angeles.
During the Writers Guild of America strike in 2007-08 I decided to start blogging about basketball as a means to keep my creative juices flowing. I never realized at the time how much I enjoyed writing about the sport or that it would lead to anything more than just free storage space for my thoughts.
Within a few months I had developed a following of [...]
