Michael Saenz, Editor — The more I think about, James Harden.
Joe McQuiston, Staff Writer — Steph Curry.
JP Pelosi, Staff Writer — Anthony Davis. Just on how much he means to the Pelicans, who have greatly improved. He scores a lot but I also doubt there’s a player who’s more efficient in attack.
FanSided
Tom West, Staff Writer — James Harden is MVP. For now. With a league best 27.2 points per game and 6.8 assists, he’s carrying the Houston Rockets offense. His numbers are career bests across the board despite his lowest playing time while in Houston, and he’s the reason why his team are sitting at third in the Western Conference.
Mohamed Mohamed, Staff Writer — The MVP of the NBA right now is Steph Curry. I know a lot of people have Harden, but Steph is on the best team in his conference, and the dude has been phenomenal this season.
Jason Veiga, Staff Writer — The MVP of the NBA right now is: James Harden. No doubt about it. 100 percent.
John Armstrong, Staff Writer — James Harden. How the Rockets are still in contention in the gritty West despite long periods of time without Dwight Howard, including this stretch they’re on now, falls completely on the shoulders of James Harden. An improved defender and leader, and always proficient scorer, Harden has taken his game to a level I’d always hoped but never imagined he’d reach. While he was playing for the Thunder I saw star potential, and even during his first Houston season, I wasn’t sure what to expect but he’s simply been incredible, far beyond what I thought his ceiling would be … and he hasn’t even reached it yet.
Blue Man Hoop
As much as I love Anthony Davis’ game, Harden biggest challengers are Stephen Curry, who’s leading the West leading Warriors, and LeBron James who’s gotten Cleveland back into contention. Davis could still make a compelling case if New Orleans secures the eighth seed, but Harden is my pick because of where his team is and his impact on their eventual outcome.
Nicolas Hughes, Staff Writer — Right now my NBA MVP is James Harden. Harden barely gets the nod over Stephen Curry because of the dependency that the Houston Rockets have on him right now. Without Harden leading the charge with such mind-boggling stats on the offensive end for the Rockets, I’m not convinced they’re even remotely close to playoff contention.
Curry has a lot of help in Golden State and while he may play the most prominent role on the squad, the players around him have all stepped up and contributed big time to make the Warriors an elite unit. James Harden’s supporting cast has a lot of solid players but not even Dwight Howard has managed to provide him with the help Curry gets on a nightly basis.
Julius Lasin, Staff Writer — My pick for MVP thus far has to be James Harden. The argument that Harden doesn’t deserve to win because he plays defense is absolutely atrocious. If that’s the case, someone needs to strip Steve Nash of his two MVPs. But that’s not the point, the point is that Harden has been such an unstoppable force on offense, as he has carried the Houston Rockets, who have been without Dwight Howard and carry the walking “curse” that is Josh Smith.
Harden is averaging an amazing 27.7 points, 6.8 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game, all while boasting a 27.87 PER, which is best among shooting guards. Today’s NBA is tailor-made for a player like James Harden, who scores 90.1 percent of his points in the paint, 3-point line, and free throw line. Every night, opponents know that the Rockets have to rely on James Harden to produce, but every night James Harden will respond and lead the Rockets to victory. No other player in the league has that type of pressure and production night-in and night-out, and that’s why he is the MVP thus far.
