1. Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs
This is a pretty easy decision. Gregg Popovich is the GOAT, and the epitome of a head coach. He doesn’t deal with the shenanigans you’ll find in Sacramento or Washington’s locker room, and even Kobe Bryant respects him.
One of my favorite Pop moments has to this summer, when he told the San Antonio Express News about his preparation for the mad rush during the free agency period.
“I’m not calling anyone at midnight,” Popovich said. “I’ll be in bed. And if that’s the difference in someone coming and not coming, then I don’t want them.”
I can’t think of a single argument against Pop being ranking the No. 1 coach in the NBA, and if you disagree then I respectfully think you’re an idiot.
