2014-2015 Efficiency Rating: 34.5

The Stan Van Gundy-era is fully underway in Motown. Gone is Greg Monroe, and in is the reign of Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson.

Despite whatever Van Gundy claims, it appears as if he is turning the Pistons into the Orlando Magic 2.0. Drummond plays the role of Dwight Howard and he is surrounded by athletes and shooters.

Their bench was relatively mediocre last year, finishing in the lower half of the league in nearly every statistical category. Some steps have been made, but the bench figures to increase their production slightly.

Aron Baynes comes over from San Antonio and hopes to have a bigger role. It is always interesting to see if former Spurs are actually good, or products of the system in San Antonio. Marcus Morris (minus his twin) arrives ready to provide outside shooting. Right now, it is unclear who will start between Morris and rookie Stanley Johnson.

Speaking of Johnson, it seems he’s in store for a solid rookie season. His impressive performance in summer league gives fans hope that Detroit will not regret selecting Johnson over Winslow.

Jodie Meeks also gives the Pistons a solid contributor off the bench. The big issue is how Brandon Jennings will respond to backing up Jackson.

Jennings was having a fantastic season until he suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. He has never been known as a selfless player by any means, so grab your buckets of popcorn and watch the situation unfold.

The Pistons bench will be improved, but that does not mean the team will. Monroe was a great force who is not easily replaced by the likes of Ersan Ilyasova.
