You know it has been a rough offseason when signing Andrea Bargnani is your key highlight. They do have a promising defensive talent in rookie Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, but otherwise the future for Jay Z’s beloved Nets looks bleak.

They lost Deron Williams, which in all actuality may not be a loss when you consider his albatross salary. They did re-sign both Thaddeus Young and Brook Lopez, but they did not do much to address their bench.

A large reason their bench was successful last season was Jarrett Jack, who now earns the promotion to starter. Mirza Teletovic is also gone to the warmer Phoenix and with him he took any semblance of depth. With Joe Johnson trade rumors swirling, the Nets bench could use an upgrade.

If some of the young talent can develop and Thomas Robinson can live up to his draft stock, then the Nets bench may be a little better than terrible. Wayne Ellington offers solid outside shooting, but the ultimate success of the bench boils down to Bargnani.

He is on a mission to prove himself after struggling in New York last season. He should also be on a mission to prove himself because of his No. 1 pick underwhelming career. With Mikhail Prokhorov running the show and spending money, you would think it would have equaled more success. Apparently not.
