NBA: Which College Coaches Could Be Successful In The Association?

8 of 9

Apr 4, 2015; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Michigan State Spartans head coach Tom Izzo reacts during the second half of the 2015 NCAA Men

Tom Izzo

Record: 494–199

*One NCAA Championship

Izzo’s been coaching at Michigan State for almost my entire lifetime and, as far as I can remember, they’ve always been good. Izzo doesn’t have a particular style or trait that makes him notable, he’s just a flat-out good coach.

He’s shown an ability to groom mediocre talents into well-rounded, solid basketball players that don’t do anything particularly great. His team’s are always prepared and they’re always a safe bet to do well in the tournament. While it may be smarter to hire a guy who’s been around the NBA game than to hire a guy who’s spent the past 20 years in the NCAA, you could do worse than Izzo.
