Sacramento Kings
Last Year’s Outcome: 29-53, Lottery
Best-Case Scenario: 44-38, First Round Playoff Exit
Why: Despite the tumultuous off-season the Sacramento Kings are improved. Sure, the organization is a disaster and there is disconnect between the coach and owner, but who cares. There is talent there and if Rajon Rondo can play well, they stand a decent chance at making the playoffs. That is unless they decide to try out owner Vivek Ranadive’s cherry picking strategy.
They have the best center in the game in DeMarcus “Boogie” Cousins and talent with Rudy Gay on the wing. The Kings actually got off to a decent start last season before Cousins went down with an injury/sickness. If things fall right, the Kings could end their reign as the laughing stock of the league and sneak into the playoffs.
Worst-Case Scenario: 28-Win Season
Why: In the picture at the top of the page you see what appears to be an angry Boogie. Let’s face it, that anger is warranted. After trade rumors swirling, a coach who wants you out, and a lackluster off-season, can make anyone a little frustrated. Sure the roster has talent, but if the organization is poorly run it makes it difficult to win in today’s NBA. Rondo is a major question mark after the fiasco in Dallas and things could go south really quickly if the Boogie trade rumors come to fruition.
What Will Probably Happen: 36-Win Season
Why: Could this end any other way? There is just too much drama and ignorance taking place in the front office of the Kings for them to breakthrough this season. The talent is there, but until the team can find some source on continuity and stability, do not expect them to enjoy success for the foreseeable future. It is a shame that Cousins’ talent is being wasted, hopefully the Kings get it together soon and get back to their past winning ways.
