Karl Anthony-Towns wowed his way to the top of the draft and the number one pick due to his tantalizing potential. His draft workouts showcased skills that he was not able to show in John Calipari’s platoon system at Kentucky.

The reason he is not at the top of my list is not due to any fault of his own. It’s just the top two guys are in a better spot for this season. Towns will have to share frontcourt minutes with his mentor Kevin Garnett, Gorgui Dieng, and Nikola Pekovic.

With Garnett mentoring him, Towns will be set up wonderfully for the future and his potential will have time to fully develop. He has the type of inside-out game that makes the talking heads of NBA salivate and it will only be a better of time before he realizes his star potential.

He stands a chance to still compete for the award for sure and he could very well become the best player out of this draft class. There is a reason he was the No. 1 overall pick and he will not be the next Anthony Bennett.

Towns’ ceiling may be somewhere up in the stratosphere and he gives the Timberwolves faithful something to look forward to. The combination of Towns and Andrew Wiggins bolsters the future and they could very well push the Wolves into the upper echelon of the Western Conference in a few short years.
