Jockeying for the final pick
Some years, the battle for most ping pong balls means very little. Last year’s draft, for example, featured three or four comparable top players at the top. This year is a different story.
There are two bonafide, barring injury, future superstars in this draft; LSU’s Ben Simmons and Duke’s Brandon Ingram. The gap between those two players and the next tier is significant.
So, you might see the Lakers tell Kobe to take a few more shots over the next month, or for the Suns to play some of their younger players a bit more. Anything to earn a few extra ping pong balls.
The battle for the first and second pick is very important.
