7. Minnesota Timberwolves select Dennis Smith Jr.: PG – North Carolina State

Dennis Smith Jr. didn’t have a great freshman year, but it’s not all on him. The talent around him was poor at best. Smith is a great athlete that can score the basketball. His jump shot isn’t perfect, but it won’t be an issue in the pros.

He needs to become a better passer, but he didn’t have anyone to pass to at North Carolina State. Smith is a high upside player, but has some bust potential. Ricky Rubio isn’t in Minnesota’s long-term plans and Kris Dunn would be best utilized as a backup defensive specialist. Smith could be a great long-term fit in Minnesota with Towns and Wiggins.

8. New York Knicks select Frank Ntilikina: PG – France

Frank Ntilikina is the best international prospect in this year’s draft. The New York Knicks had success with their last international draft pick, Kristaps Porzingis. The Knicks need a point guard, and Ntilikina has a lot of potential.

Per Draft Express, Ntilikina has great length for a point guard which will help him on the defensive end of the floor in the NBA. Even though he’s a work in progress as a ball-handler, he’s a good shooter and passer.

Although he isn’t a great athlete, he’s athletic and long enough to be a handful for opposing point guards. There’s always risk with drafting international players, but Ntilikina looks the part. He’d be a great fit in New York.
