NBA: 5 hypothetical trades that make sense
By Evan Dyal
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: DeMarcus Cousins
New Orleans Pelicans Receive: Kevin Love, first-round pick (from Brooklyn)
Why it Makes Sense for the Cavaliers – I saved the most fun trade for last. In case you haven’t noticed, the Cavs are 4-6 and playing horrific defense. The retirement club is not working out, and Cleveland needs youth, star power, and energy. If they want any chance of beating the Warriors, or even make the NBA Finals at this point, they need to make a trade.

Adding Cousins would allow LeBron to play the four, and then they could start Jae Crowder, J.R Smith, and Isaiah Thomas once he gets back.
Plus, it would settle in the bench rotation. Jeff Green, Dwyane Wade and Derrick Rose and Tristan Thompson could stabilize the bench. Yes, losing Love hurts a bit, but Cousins is better defensively, on the glass and almost just as good from deep. This trade is the only chance to stay competitive while going all in and trying to convince LeBron to stay.
Why it Makes Sense for the Pelicans- There probably is a scenario where the twin towers would work. Anthony Davis and Cousins are putting up huge numbers, and the Pelicans are good when they are on the floor together, but besides that, it has been ugly.
They lack shooting and depth badly and already have been hit by the injury bug. This team should be around 41-41, and even if they do make the playoffs, they will get creamed in the first round.

New Orleans needs to be honest with itself, and try to move Cousins now before he leaves as a free agent in the summer. Kevin Love is a borderline all-star, who can play next to Love and the Brooklyn pick gives them to a chance to get a star player in next year’s NBA draft.
